Desert Discovery Center Update

DDC.jpegThe contract between the City of Scottsdale and the Desert Discovery Center Scottsdale, Inc., for management services remains on the proposed agenda for the January 11, 2016, City Council meeting. The description of this agenda item is available on the City's website. Recent developments regarding funding for the management services contract: the McDowell Sonoran Preserve Commission approved a recommendation to City Council that it is premature to recommend the use of Preserve Funds in the development of the DDC; the Tourism Development Commission approved recommending funding from the bed tax carry over funds. At its December 16, 2015, meeting, the MSC board affirmed that its position on the DDC has not changed since the adoption of the  DDC resolution in January 2015. The Board also adopted a resolution in support of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve Commission's recommendation to City Council regarding the use of Preserve funds. Additional updates will follow as the agenda for the January 11, 2016, City Council meeting is finalized, and links to any referenced documents will be provided when they are available. Any interested stewards are encouraged to attend this important meeting in order to hear the discussions first hand. For any questions, please contact Rich Cochran, Board Member and Chair of its DDC Committee.
