Excellent Letter to the Editor on the Tax Code and Reform

FairTax_logo_3207.jpgThanks to Jacksonville Florida resident Paul Livingston for this letter.

Mr. Livingston writes that:

The Ways and Means Committee has wasted much time and energy with 900 pages of tax change.

 Where is the tax reform?

 -      The U.S. needs real tax reform to end abuses and change for the better.

-      Stop deceiving us with hidden taxes that we pay in higher prices that businesses charge.

-      Stop taxing production (jobs, income, savings and investments).

-      End this tax code that drives out and discourages job growth, companies and wealth.

-      Stop this tax code that

puts U.S. goods and services at a price disadvantage to imported goods.

-      Make the tax code transparent so we don’t need a computer program or tax expert to pay taxes.

-      Our present tax code will never be brief, beneficial or fair with direct taxation as legalized with the 16th Amendment.

-      The 16th Amendment enables the income tax, taxes on jobs and tax withholding.

-      Want less of something?

Tax it.

Our code taxes production, jobs and good behavior.

Production is what improves the standard of living, builds wealth and a base for government to tax.

The tax code has grown as politicians and special interests have changed the code for their advantage.

Ever wonder why the rich get richer and the poor get poorer?

A flat tax is not the solution.

The FairTax moves the tax base to consumption with an effective tax rate that progresses up to 23 percent.

With the prebate, a two-adult and two-children family spending $31,000 per year has an effective tax rate of zero.

At $45,000, the tax rate is 7.1 percent.

At $75,000, the tax rate is 13.5 percent rate.

End tax withholding, add the prebate and the minimum wage increases.

Does this look like sticking it to the middle class?
