The final report does not matter to us.  We object to it being located on Preserve Land and to using funds authorized by the voters to purchase & to maintain Preserve Land for a commercial tourist attraction.

Your response is the same bureaucratic bromide parroted by Sam Campana, Mike Nolan and others who are railroading this through.

Why demanding Gateway?  Funding attached to that location?  Prestige?  The statement of the DDCS is that Gateway has been determined and authorized by the Council in January, so they cannot consider another location.  (I believe that was a Sam Campana answer, but not sure)

I may be able to help you out a little big on the funding - The Detail of Preserve Tax Funding & Endowment Concept Costs shows “Projected Use of remaining Uncommitted Cash from Preserve Taxes” at $77 mil - coincidentally, the amount previously estimated for construction of the DDC.

The Preserve Commission Recommendation is to submit to the voters use of preserve tax funds for 2 endowment funds - that should be fairly easy.  In contrast, you are refusing to submit the issue of the location of the DDC on Preserve Land to the voters.

Something looks and smells really bad about this and the way all of you are going about it.  I trust that the location & use of Preserve funds will be a major issue for voters this year.

Sincerely, Pat Shaler

Thank you for your comments about the DDC.  I will certainly consider your views when the DDC public outreach and planning process approved by the Council earlier this year is complete.  Right now

we do not know the recommended design, size, scope, cost and funding sources.

Subject: No DDC on Preserve Land

I attended both the MSC Steward meeting & the public meeting.  The majority of citizens at both public meeting and the majority of the Stewards at the Steward meeting object to tearing up Preserve Land for the DDC and object to using money that was allocated to purchase & maintain the Preserve.

Every ‘benefit’ alleged by Sam Campana does not require location on Preserve Land at Gateway.

The MSC refuses to allow any discussion other than support for the DDC among the Stewards.  I resigned as a MSC Steward because of the heavy handed manipulation.

The Presenters at each of the 3 meetings I am aware of had an arrogant, condescending attitude toward anyone objecting and then they patronized us with the “it hasn’t been decided yet - we’re studying it”.

There at at least 3 other better locations, adjacent to desert land, that they refuse to consider because they said that you authorized them to proceed only with the Gateway location.

Mayor Lane told several of us at a Tea Party Scottsdale Meeting that he opposed the DDC - I do not recall if we got into the details about location & use of funds - then he voted to let the study go forward.

IF this is such a benefit to Scottsdale why not put it to a vote and try to sell it to the voters?

This will be an issue for the election - waiting until 2017 will be too late.

I am very disappointed to see that 6 of you are acting in such a heavy handed manner to push through something to benefit a few against the wishes of the many.
